Ariza lifts Wizards to 3-1 lead

Even without Nene, the Wizards found little trouble scoring on the Bulls. A lot of 3-pointers sure seem to help with that. Trevor Ariza was simply on fire beyond the arc.

He hit four of his six 3-point makes in the first half as he scored 30 points for the game. Chicago was slow to rotate out to him and close out as the Wizards moved the ball expertly around the basket. Chicago was simply unable to copy the success offensively from Game Three.

Chicago committed 16 turnovers which turned into 29 Washington points. The Wizards shot worse — a bit better than 40 percent — but were able to control the pace because of those fast break opportunities.

The Bulls got 32 points off the bench from Taj Gibson, but put only two other players in double figures. Offense remains a problem for Chicago. And so too does the score in the series. The Bulls are one loss away from going home.

Reggie Jackson delivers Thunder’s third scorer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BELFAxvcsA8

The Thunder had been looking for a third scorer. Who had them turning the reigns over to that third scorer to deliver another overtime — the third in four games — and to win it.

Down by five with about a minute to go, Jackson his a three and a runner forced overtime. He kept it going in overtime as he scored 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds in this 92-89 slogfest against the Grizzlies.

Oklahoma City lost a double-digit lead in the second half as Memphis went inside to Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. Gasol had 23 points.

Oklahoma City’s dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 30 points on 11-for-45 shooting. The two each had 15 points. It was Durant’s first game with fewer than 20 points since December.

The good news for the Thunder is that they can win when their stars are not feeling it. This was not the game for that to happen, but it all worked out to even the series at 2-2.

Nearly done: Heat up 3-0 on Bobcats

LeBron James is not playing against the Bobcats. He is playing against the shadow of the man sitting on the Bobcats’ bench in street clothes and whose logo is probably third most visible in Time Warner Cable Arena (behind the Bobcats and old Hornets gear). James gave that man, Michael Jordan, a quick stare down […]

Vinsanity in Dallas for the win

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HESAu-pKmyE&feature=youtu.be

The Mavericks defeated the Spurs by one point on that Vince Carter fling from the corner for a 109-108 victory. The Mavericks have a 2-1 series lead.

Monta Ellis was the star of the fourth quarter with 29 points, 12 in the final 12 minutes. He was going after the basket and making shots at will. He was in a one-on-one battle with the Spurs and keeping Dallas in it. Manu Ginobili set up the theatrics with a lay in with 1.7 seconds left to give the Spurs a two-point lead. Then Vince did his thing.

San Antonio got 22 points from Tim Duncan and 19 from Tony Parker. The Spurs had the lead for much of the second half and seemed poised to hold off the Mavericks as Ellis went on his scoring burst. Carter changed all that by leaking to the corner.

Pacers back on track… somewhat

The Pacers evened up their series against the Hawks with a 91-88 win on Saturday.

David West came up big with a late scoring surge and George Hill hit a big layup that helped Indiana secure its lead. West ended with 18 points and Paul George had 24 points and 10 rebounds.

He missed a pair of free throws that gave the Hawks one last chance to tie it. They could not free Kyle Korver and Peron Antic’s rushed three fell no good.

Paul Millsap finished with 29 points for Atlanta.

The series is tied heading back to Indianapolis.

Bulls outmuscle Wizards to climb back in

The Bulls did not fall into a 3-0 hole with a gutsy effort in Game Three in Washington. Mike Dunleavy went off with 35 points and drew the focus of Washington’s defense. But it was Jimmy Butler who helped Chicago finish the game with a key 3-pointer late and some clutch free throws too.

Bradley Beal scored 25 points and John Wall had 23 for the Wizards.

The bigger news though was Nene getting ejected for a brief head-to-head encounter with Jimmy Butler in the third quarter. Nene and Butler clashed and Nene appeared to take it a little over the top and strike Butler with more than the tradition NBA shove. He was sent off and could face a suspension for Game Four.

Nets hold off late rally from Raptors

The Nets looked to have the game wrapped up before the Raptors made a crazy run to close the deficit and make the game tight. The Nets made their free throws and got the stops to hold them off 102-98 and take a 2-1 series lead heading into Sunday’s Game Four in Brooklyn.

Joe Johnson scored 29 points and Deron Williams had 22 points. DeMar DeRozan scored 30 points for the Raptors.

Who won the game for the Rockets?

It doesn’t matter. It just matters that he did and may have saved the Rockets season after giving up an 11-point lead late in the fourth quarter and had to go to overtime to prevent falling into a 3-0 hole (something no NBA team has ever escaped from). The hero tonight in the 121-116 Rockets […]

What about the Warriors’ second unit?

Stephen Curry had a lot of faith in himself on the final Sunday night of the regular season. You have to if you want to score 47 cold-blooded points in an overtime loss to Portland. His biggest play though came in the trust he showed in his teammate at the end of regulation. With  time […]

OKC’s Perkins has a seat on Memphis’ Mike Miller

File this under things you never see in an NBA game.

During last night’s Thunder-Grizzlies Game 3 of their playoff series, OKC’s Kendrick Perkins was scrambling for a loose ball when he decided to sit on Grizzlies’ Mike Miller… literally.

Seriously, Perk treats Miller like a love seat.

The Thunder would go on to lose the game but at least Perkins left a lasting impression on Miller. Get it?

Clippers outlast Warriors in Game Three

Blake Griffin scored 32 points on 15-for-25 shooting and dominated on the inside. DeAndre Jordan had 14 points and 22 rebounds. The Clippers took control of the game and had to hold on as Stephen Curry got hot. Curry’s 3-pointer at the buzzer fell short and Golden State held on to take a 2-1 series lead.

Curry had 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting. Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 26 points.

Grizzlies grind Thunder to a halt

Another four-point play to force overtime? No big deal. A 17-0 run to close regulation to send the game to overtime? So what? Memphis fans can feel elated and relieved following their team’s 98-95 overtime victory, the team’s second for a 2-1 series lead. The Grindhouse lived up to its name and the Grizzlies lived […]

Hawks come together as Pacers fall apart

Frankly, the Pacers have a lot of reasons to be looking at themselves and pointing fingers at each other. A season’s worth of work to get the top seed in the Eastern Conference has almost been completely thrown away. All the good will of the first half of the season has been spent. It is […]
