The Golden State Warriors are the best team in the NBA right now with a 38-4 record. It has been an incredible season for them and they are showing no signs of slowing down. Klay Thompson has been excited about the season that they have had, but he does not believe they are alone in the Western Conference.
During a recent interview, Thompson mentioned the San Antonio Spurs and called them a monster.
“It pushes us,” Thompson said. “It definitely makes us better, knowing that they’re behind us. They’re playing great. It’s going to be fun when we see them next week. There are some good teams behind the Cavs in the East, but not a monster like San Antonio. But that’s going to make us better, to be honest with you.”
San Antonio is quietly right behind Golden State with a 36-6 record and are not slowing down. They have put together a roster that will once again compete for a championship. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are still around, but the Spurs are much bigger than their long-time “Big Three” this season.
LaMarcus Aldridge was added in free agency ahead of the 2015-16 season. He was the price of free agency and has made them relevant once again. Add in the continued growth of Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs have put together a team that will be a contender even when the “Big Three” decided to call it quits.
Gregg Popovich is without question the best head coach in the NBA currently and has helped take this team to successful season after successful season.
All of that being said, both of these teams are going to have great seasons the rest of the way and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them meet up in the Western Conference Finals.
Thompson is certainly right saying the Spurs are a “monster” and it’ll be intriguing to see where both teams finish. San Antonio certainly hasn’t given up the hope that they can catch the Warriors and they are not very far behind despite Golden State’s hyped up start to the year.
