Phoenix Mercury win WNBA title

While you were focused on the FIBA World Cup (right?!), the WNBA wrapped up its season with a matchup of two of the great young stars in the league.

Unfortunately, Chicago’s Elena Delle Donne was dealing with a back injury and was getting back into shape. And then in Game Two of the series, Brittney Griner got hit in the eye and needed outpatient surgery to fix the problem. She missed Game Three.

So up 2-0 in the series, the Sky had a golden opportunity to extend the series.

The heavily favored Mercury though took care of business 87-82 behind Diana Taurasi’s MVP performance to win another WNBA title.
