I’m a glass half-full kind of guy.
Every time the lockout goes a little longer and something else gets cancelled, I like to think, “Alright, that’s the last thing to go.” I like to hope that the NBA season will only be starting two weeks late and nothing else will get flushed down the drain.
Detroit Pistons’ Ben Gordon has a different line of thinking. He says the lockout could go on for two years. Gordon has been in some of the meetings with the owners and says they’re just a “waste of time,” that the owners are “just going through the motions” to put on a show for the public.
That has to be a little bit of a stretch, I’d imagine. The owners are losing money too here. I guess it’s possible they’re holding out, thinking the players will get more desperate before they do.
One thing is for sure, the players are definitely acting like they want to play. With all the Twitter campaigns and players speaking out about how badly they want back on the court, they definitely come out looking like the good guys in this scenario.
I know I’m not alone in hoping Gordon is wrong. I can’t even imagine the damage that will be done to the league if they don’t play for two whole years. I guess we could look on the bright side and hope that if the lockout lasts that long, maybe we’ll get to see Amar’e Stoudemire’s idea for a player-run basketball league come to fruition.
