Ben Wallace was arrested this past weekend for drunk driving, and he faces a serious penalty.
Detroit Piston Ben Wallace is facing a 5-year felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon after police found an unloaded pistol in a backpack in his car as they arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving Saturday in Bloomfield Township.
When officers searched his car, they discovered an unloaded pistol in a backpack in the “passenger compartment” of the vehicle, according to a news release issued by the police department today.
Wallace took a breath test that registered higher than the legal limit at the police station. According to the report, the drunk driving charge is a misdemeanor, but carrying the concealed weapon is a felony.
The facts are the facts. There was a gun found. And the breathalyzer showed he was driving with a blood alcohol level higher than the legal limit. So despite what Wallace may plead or say, those are, according to the police, the facts in this case. And despite a myriad of stories involving these same elements, players still get themselves into trouble.
For a guy who wants to be a lawyer, this is especially mind-boggling. I know there are two sides to the story, so I’m anxious to hear his. Right now, though, this doesn’t look good.
