I’m getting older, and as luck would have it I haven’t started to see signs of my hairline racing away from my forehead quite yet. I appreciate that personally, but more than that I also don’t feel its my place to crack on anybody I know my age or younger who’s been faced with the affliction George Costanza once came to define as the “horseshoe effect” either. I feel like its bad karma, and I refuse to do it.
In light of that personal stance on the issue of balding, I’ve never made reference to the fact that LeBron James now has less hair up front than he used to have when he first broke into the league as a Cleveland Cavalier – check my twitter timeline if you don’t believe me. The reason I mention this is not because I have a lot of good friends who are bald that could also definitely beat me up if they wanted too – even though I do – but it is simply to say that I’m not making fun of LeBron James’ hairline in this post either. I’m merely mentioning the fact that Brandon Jennings did.
Jennings, a featured member of the Under Armour Basketball family, took exception to the fact that Nike guy LeBron James took to twitter to diss Maryland’s uniforms on Sunday night. For full disclosure, as much as I’d enjoy piling on LeBron James, he was totally accurate in his selection of the word “Ewwww” to describe whatever it was that the Terrapins were wearing on Sunday night, but that’s besides the point. Jennings thought they were kinda nice I guess, which is important in this case because he made it a point to say that Maryland’s uni’s looked better than LeBron James’ hairline does.
This according to the following posts updated on each of their twitter accounts in discussion of the matter (via IamGM.com):
I do have to think that there is no way LeBron James thought an NBA’er would tweet back a response to his comment involving the comparison of his hairline in this particular case. There’s no way. But in Brandon Jennings’ defense, he was simply stating his opinion that he does think LeBron James should keep his headband on because his hairline doesn’t look that awesome. Maybe if he texted LeBron that, or shot him a BBM to that effect, LeBron may have taken it as constructive criticism. I’m guessing that based on the fact Jennings went the twitter route though, he didn’t. But maybe LeBron ends up the big winner after all is said and done, and walks away with a Just For Men or Propecia sponsorship deal off all this in the end. I know that’s the first move I make once I start balding, only I will definitely have to pay for mine, whereas LeBron would definitely get some for free. That guy always ends up winning in the end, doesn’t he?
