Dwight Howard apparently loves being locked out because it has given him an opportunity to really find out what he’s all about as a person. Which is just fantastic.
He went to Comic-Con in San Diego to support his cartoon named “Kick Buttowski” recently, took a tour through China promoting his brand, and also made a trip over to Alabama to help out tornado victims. No word yet as far when the findings from his official soul-searching venture will be released, but we will tweet out a link to that presser as soon as Howard goes live with it.
In the meantime, he talked to the Orlando Sentinel yesterday about how much fun he’s been having lately:
“It’s weird, but I think it’s a good time for myself and the other guys to really find out what we’re all about,” Howard said. “Most people view us as just basketball players, and we can use this time to learn about ourselves and explore things that we wouldn’t have the time to do if we were in season.”
“I’m still in shape and play basketball,” he said. “Everything happens for a reason, and even though we have this lockout, I think it’s good for us to really find out who we are. Getting away from the game for a while is good, and we’ll come back strong, hopefully with a different attitude.”
If that different attitude he hopefully comes back with includes realizing that NBA fans will be bored out of their minds if the lockout extends into the season, then maybe next time he won’t infer that he’s having the time of his life during it. Okay fine, I’m just jealous; I want to take a tour through Asia promoting all things myself also, and I’d enjoy the trip even more if I was able to afford doing so while currently unemployed.
I can’t though, Dwight can, so good for him in being a glass half full guy and taking advantage of some opportunities at the moment. I hope he finds whatever he’s looking for out there. Then I hope the lockout ends, basketball resumes, and I’m never forced to watch the cartoon Kick Buttowski.
