Kobe Finally Acknowledges Mike Brown

Kobe Bryant (Reuters photo) via Daylife.comIt’s been more than two months since the Los Angeles Lakers hired Mike Brown to replace Phil Jackson.  A lot has happened in two months (as we’ve read, depressingly enough, since July 1).  But one thing that hasn’t happened, until now, is Kobe Bryant actually talking publicly about the hire.

Well, we can all breathe now.  Kobe has finally acknowledged his new coach.

We’ve talked. We’ve met, we’ve talked several times, met several times. We have been in dialogue there has been an open dialogue.”

“…He just seems like the type of coach that buttons everything up, so I think as players we’ll all be happy.”

Groundbreaking.  Several instances of open dialogue.  You couldn’t go to a farm and get a fresher pile of BS than those answers right there.

I’m not saying Kobe doesn’t like Mike Brown or the hire.  He may well be telling the truth about the players being happy.  But Kobe sure doesn’t seem very happy about it right now.  I don’t want to read too much into it, but don’t you think he’d have given a slightly more ringing endorsement to this move if he really was happy about it.

Maybe he sees Jim Buss throwing his weight around and making a bunch of questionable decision.  Maybe he had his heart set on Brian Shaw as the coach and now is pissed off that the team didn’t follow his wishes.

Or Maybe there’s nothing to this and Kobe’s just fine.  I just think if he was, we’d get more than “we have been in dialogue there has been an open dialogue” in his first comments two months after the fact.
