We’ve all done it.
We’ve all gotten a direct message on Twitter as a text message. And we’ve all replied to the text message instead of going to Twitter to reply to the DM. The result is a tweet that’s broadcast to everyone.
What we can only hope at that point is that we haven’t said anything dirty, embarrassing, or revealed any secrets.
Yesterday, Players Union VP Roger Mason Jr. sent the above tweet out, via text, just after negotiations ended for the day. He then went on to claim his Twitter was hacked, which is the standard back-track for when you screw up like that.
Of course, it’s possible that someone hacked into his account. That’s why it’s the standard excuse for the “oops, I didn’t mean to send that” text/tweet. It’s possible.
But it’s more likely that someone sent Mason a direct message, he replied to the text instead of the DM, and a personal bit of information to someone got broadcast. And because more than 25,000 people follow him, someone saw it, grabbed a screen cap, and, well, here we are.
So do I believe Mason was hacked? No, I don’t. I will, however, remain open to the possibility that I can be proven wrong (only because it happens so often). Until then, I’ll believe Mason made an honest mistake that will be addressed in today’s bargaining session.
Meanwhile, is anyone else even the least bit excited that this is possibly an actual tweet from the NBPA’s VP?
