According to Marcus Thompson II of the Oakland Tribune, Golden State Warriors teammates Stephen Curry and Dorell Wright could join forces again next season…in China.
While neither player currently has an offer on the table, if the lockout extends into next season, China seems to be the preferred destination for both players.
“China is looking promising,” Curry said via text message. “There’s no deal yet on the table, but my agent is going to entertain offers and see what happens. If it works, I’ll go.”
Wright said China would be his first choice. He has an endorsement deal with Peak, a Chinese basketball shoe company.
“I would definitely like to play in China,” Wright said via text. “But I’m open to other options. I’m going to China for a week (in August), so I’ll definitely see how it is.”
Wright, who becomes a free agent after next season, could get a good feel for what his market value could be after next season if he decides to head overseas. After six seasons with the Miami Heat, Wright had a breakout season with the Warriors last season, averaging 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and three assists per game.
Curry averaged 18.6 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game with the Warriors last season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see several teams offer lucrative contracts to Curry or Wright, considering they are both coming off successfull seasons.
A team like Shanxi Zhongyu, which has employed former NBA players Stephon Marbury and Bonzi Wells, could be first in line, and the next Curry to Wright 70-foot alley-oop could come with the players wearing red and white, instead of the Warriors’ royal blue and gold.
