I don’t think it is fair to speculate on what I think somebody else might be thinking because there is no way I really know. However, if I were to do so in the case of Dwight Howard, I would argue that he is looking to make as big a deal out of every possible issue that he can, in an attempt to spin them all into a perceived injustice done unfairly and mercilessly against him by all who align themselves with the Orlando Magic organization.
Because he would definitely stay if everybody did not give him such a hard time. Or something like that.
The latest of which includes a game where Dwight says he did not get the ball enough down the stretch. In this game he made five shots, and he missed 10. Orlando won 99-94 too, but that did not seem to matter for Mr. Team-First Dwight Howard afterwards.
This from FoxSportsWisconsin.com:
“I do want the ball more in the fourth quarter,” a frustrated Howard told FOX Sports exclusively after the game.
“I want to become a closer. The only way you get there is by getting the ball and have coach have the confidence in giving me the ball.
“That’s how Kobe (Bryant) and the rest of the great fourth-quarter players got that way. It’s trial and error. When Kobe first got in the league, it took him a while to become the killer he is in the fourth quarter now. That’s because he went through that phase where he had to learn what shots to take and just get confidence in taking shots in the fourth quarter.
“That’s one thing that I want for myself, so I can become the guy who finishes games for my team. I want to be that guy whose team wants him to close games out for them. Coach just needs to have confidence in me.”
It would not hurt if Howard could make free throws either, because he is totally going to just get fouled as soon as he touches it late in a close game. Dwight did not mention that though, as he continued.
“Just run plays through me, so I can be comfortable in being the guy and have confidence in getting the ball late in the game and scoring,” Howard said.
“That’s what I’m worth. I want to be that guy who controls games. As a kid, that’s what you dream about in the NBA, taking that shot. I want to do that.
“I’m the leader of the team. Ride my back. I’ll lead. I don’t care if I miss every single shot, I’m going to continue to play hard. Just get on my back.
“That’s why they call me Superman.”
I will offer my opinion here: I could care less about the Orlando Magic, and don’t really care about Dwight Howard either really. But this is getting to be a joke at this point.
“That’s why they call me Superman”? Okay buddy. If you are such a leader of your team, how did you not notice that YOUR TEAM WON. You shot 33 percent from the field, Dwight, meanwhile Jason Richardson scored 31 on just about as many shots as you took.
Get over yourself here, Superman. And just go do whatever it is you are trying to do already.
