It’s starting to look like we may never see Baron Davis in a New York Knicks uniform. It was originally thought that we might see him suiting up at the end of January, now the Knicks are saying Davis won’t even be available before the All-Star break.
“Coach Mike D’Antoni said Davis has had “a setback” in his rehab from a herniated disc and remains out indefinitely.”
Now, with the surging Jeremy Lin taking the spotlight in New York, I’m sure Baron Davis’ health is the last thing on the minds of Knicks fans, especially those that were chanting “M-V-P” for Lin last night. But you never know what could happen. Lin could just be the flavor of the week in a city quick to turn its back on a player that’s struggling in any sport. The Knicks could be in point guard panic mode by next week.
Chris Broussard is reporting that the Knicks are showing interest in Houston Rockets point guard Jonny Flynn, who is the Rockets’ third-string point guard behind Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic
“The Knicks have shown the most interest, sources say, and discussed a possible deal involving Renaldo Balkman and Mike Bibby. The Rockets were not interested.”
No matter how good Jeremy Lin is, the Knicks are still going to need a solid backup, so if they don’t think Baron Davis is coming back, or they don’t think any of their other guards can handle the job, they’ll have to keep shopping. For now, it’s fun to keep an eye on the roulette wheel they have going as their point guard rotation.
