Like Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls needed ANOTHER injury this season.

With about a minute to go in a 103-91 win over the Philadelphia 76’ers, Derrick Rose jump-stopped on a drive, and his left knee buckled under him as he rose up.  After laying on the floor for a few minutes, Rose was helped to the locker room.  After the game, Coach Tom Thibodeau talked about the injury, and why Derrick Rose was in the game at that point.

Rose finished the game with 23 points, 9 assists and 9 rebounds, but he shot 9-23 and had 5 turnovers.  So as good as the game was for Rose, he still didn’t have his whole game working.  The Bulls have won plenty of games without Rose this season, but the playoffs are a different animal.  The game changes a bit, the teams are obviously better, and it’s pretty clear that the Bulls will need Rose to have a legitimate shot at a title.  If he’s out for any significant amount of time, it could be the death blow to the Bulls chances.  If it’s a simple knee sprain, we’ll have to take a closer look at how it affects his speed and quickness… key elements to his game.

If the Bulls advance to face, say, Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics, a healthy Rose makes that point guard match up an exciting back-and-forth affair that Rose can win.  A hobbled Rose might lose that matchup, which could have a domino effect on the entire series.

First thing’s first… the MRI which will spell out what the injury is.  From there, we’ll have to figure out how the Bulls deal with it.
