Dwyane Wade Out, No Timetable On His Return

Dwyane Wade sprained his right ankle on Friday against the Denver Nuggets. He hasn’t practiced since sustaining that injury, and as a result the Miami Heat announced late Tuesday morning that Wade will be not be participating in Tuesday night’s clash with the San Antonio Spurs. When’s he coming back then you ask? Nobody really knows, because nobody’s really saying.

Coach Erik Spoelstra draped in a hooded sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off at the forearms walked in channeling his inner Bill Belichick as he issued the following series of statements regarding the status of Wade’s injury after practice on Monday.

DENVER, CO - JANUARY 13: Dwyane Wade #3 of the Miami Heat falls to the court with an injury in the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center on January 13, 2012 in Denver, Colorado. Wade left the game after the injury as the Nuggets defeated the Heat 117-104.

This according to Ira Winderman of the SunSentinel.com:

“Every day, I’ll reevaluate and we’ll go from there. There is no timetable on his injury right now.

“We’re not going to get into specifics and try to lay down a timetable. There is no timetable of when he’ll be back.”

Wade missed three games with a bruised left foot before returning for the past three. During that return, he sustained a strained calf against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Against that backdrop, it would seem apparent that Wade not only would be out Tuesday, but also several additional games.

“I’m not trying to be coy,” Spoelstra said. “We are going to reevaluate him every day. I don’t have another answer for you and that’s how we’re taking it. We’re going to be very judicious as we move forward, but we do not have a timetable to his return.”

Since Spo won’t get into that timetable specifically, we’re left to speculate on just how serious Wade’s injury might be. If I was to venture a guess, I’d have to side with Winderman in thinking that it does certainly seem apparent that he’s out for not only Tuesday, but several games after that too. If it wasn’t that big of a deal, I’m sure nobody would really have too much of an issue saying as much publicly.

At the same time though, I don’t think he’ll be out much more than two weeks either. If it was three to four weeks serious, something along those lines, they’d just come out with it Zach Randolph style and deal with it I’d imagine. So right now, I’m setting the over / under for Wade’s return to game action at two weeks from yesterday. Through the nine games that D-Wade has played this year so far, he is averaging 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists per night on the season.
