The Greg Oden story is an increasingly sad one. As the basketball world celebrates what Jeremy Lin has been able to make of his NBA opportunity recently, we’re also left wondering what Oden could’ve made of the one his knees never allowed him to have. Okay nobody is thinking about Greg Oden right now during full-scale “Lin-sanity,” I realize that, but you get what I’m saying.
Here’s also what Portland Trailblazers Acting GM Chad Buchanan is saying about Oden’s next surgery (via Blazers Edge):
Buchanan said that the decision to go forward with the procedure has not changed even though a firm date has still not yet been set.
“Still kind of up in the air on a date,” Buchanan said. “Nothing is set in stone on when they are going to go in and work on his left knee at this point. It’s kind of a day-to-day update we get from the doctors there [in Vail] on when they are ready to do it.”
Buchanan said that the “minor” blood clots discovered in Oden’s left ankle on Feb. 3 remain the deciding factor in determining the date of the procedure, and that there haven’t been other setbacks.
“I can’t give you an exact date, but it should be here shortly, assuming everything goes as planned.”
This after a successful arthroscopic procedure on Oden’s right knee back on February 3rd. So while we all constantly spend our days at work wondering aloud to all who will listen if the Jeremy Lin’s story can ever be topped, and it probably can’t be, I’d argue that Oden coming back from all this to play 6 or 7 more years in the League and appearing in a couple All Star Games would. At this point at least.
