Patrick Ewing’s Advice For Dwight Howard

With all the trade talk flying around about where Dwight Howard is going to end up, it seems highly unlikely that the Orlando Magic big man will stick around southern Florida. One of the teams Howard is asking to be traded to is the New Jersey Nets, who will be the Brooklyn Nets soon enough, but someone who knows a thing or two about playing under the bright lights of the Big Apple says Howard should resist the temptation.

The Orlando Sentinel talked to Patrick Ewing about what advice he’s given to Howard, and Ewing said he told the big guy to stay.

“Everybody always thinks the grass is always greener,” Ewing said. “But it’s a great opportunity for him to stay in a [single] place. I wish I had stayed and finished my career here in New York. But it’s his decision.”

I doubt Howard listened much to what Ewing had to say, it’s pretty clear that he wants out of Orlando. He’s said publicly that he wants to go to the Nets, Los Angeles Lakers or Dallas Mavericks. And now Chris Sheridan is reporting he wouldn’t mind playing for the other Los Angeles team as well.

“He’s been watching them a lot. He’s intrigued by the Clippers,” said a source with knowledge of the situation.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Of course a guy who can jump out of the building would love to go to a place now being referred to as “Lob City.”

As Howard continues to be the most sought after man in the NBA, the rumors will continue to fly. Patrick Ewing can give all the advice he wants, but I don’t think the words of wisdom of a Hall-of-Famer beat out the allure of a new city and a big new contract. I’m sure we’ll see Dwight Howard in a new jersey (not necessarily New Jersey, though) this time next year.
