Stan Van Gundy wonders if Derrick Rose could be the next Dwightmare

There's a big part of me that wants to say this could never happen. Truth is, Derrick Rose could be the next superstar to bolt for greener pastures when his contract does expires with the Chicago Bulls. As much as we might not want to think that's possible.

CHICAGO, IL - MAY 01: Derrick Rose #1 of the Chicago Bulls, injured in game one against the Philadelphia 76ers, waves to the crowd before Game Two of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals during the 2012 NBA Playoffs at the United Center on May 1, 2012 in...

Stan Van Gundy, a man who speaks only the truth, wondered about Derrick Rose's potential to do this very thing earlier this week on an Orlando radio station.

Van Gundy's comments are below via ESPN Chicago

"I think the interesting one coming up in the future is going to be Derrick Rose," Van Gundy said on AM-740's "The Game" in Orlando. "I think Derrick Rose is a great, great representative of our league, and he's a great player. And he's got good players around him, very good players around him, but if (the Bulls) can't get another star there for him is he eventually going to look around and say, 'Hey, I've got to work this out on my own and I've got to find somehow to get somewhere else so that I will have a chance to play with another star.' The league has changed."

As much as I'd like to sit here and pontificate about why Derrick Rose is "different", fact is it might be in his best interest as a "brand" to be thinking like this.

The Bulls aren't any better around Rose than the Cavaliers were around LeBron James. James took a beating for leaving, specifically how he left, but now he's got that ring and his "brand" has never been stronger.

So I think the Bulls do need another star. Sooner than later on that too. If anybody knows how these superstar soap operas can play out, it's Stan Van Gundy. A guy who could very well still be employed if his front office ever equipped him with a guy that Dwight Howard really liked playing with.
