The Look Ahead for February 21

Our nightly look ahead to the schedule with a couple of notes and story lines so you can plan out your NBA viewing.  All Times Eastern.

Fire up the League Pass

76ers_logo8:00  Philadelphia 76’ers @ Memphis Grizzlies grizzlies_logo

We’re looking at a pair of teams on the verge of making that next step.  Both Philly and Memphis have gone from lottery teams to playoff teams.  Now they’re in that “dangerous playoff team” realm, where no one really expect them to make a serious run at a title, but no one wants to really face them in the playoffs, either.  In a year or two, this could potentially be a Finals preview game (provided management and injuries cooperate).

Couple of notes:

  • Philadelphia has lost seven times this season by seven points or less
  • Memphis is 5-3 in the second half of back-to-back games this season

There the Spurs were… without their best scorer in Manu Ginobili and a putrid road record at 2-8.  So naturally, the Spurs did what you’d expect… they whipped off an NBA best 11 game winning streak with eight of those wins coming on the road as part of their “rodeo road trip.”  The trip is almost over, and now they’re not only without Manu (again), but they’re without Tiago Splitter for at least a couple of weeks.  Splitter has been stepping up his game lately for the Spurs, who now face a desperate Portland Trailblazers team.  LaMarcus Aldridge is back… and he might be the guy that can end this Spurs winning streak.

Couple of notes:

  • San Antonio’s last four wins have been decided by seven or fewer points
  • Portland was the only team in the Western Conference to claim a series from the Spurs in 2010-11

Other story lines for tonight

7:00  Detroit-Cleveland:  The Detroit Pistons are actually on a winning streak!  They go for their fourth straight tonight.

7:00  New Orleans-Indiana:  The Pacers look to string together a three-game winning streak after a five game skid.

7:30  Sacramento-Miami:  Miami has won every one of its games in this six game streak by at least 12 points.
