Young happy to return home

It must feel great to get out of D.C. The Washington Wizards’ tiny little sailboat was sinking fast and along came the Los Angeles Clippers’ yacht to throw out a life preserver to Nick Young. Time to sail to more peaceful waters.

Young described his trade to the Clippers as “a dream come true.”

No kidding.

Besides the fact that Young was born in L.A. and played for USC, the Clippers are a playoff team and possible Western Conference contender. The Wizards are… not.

He will be playing with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Chauncey Billups and company instead of a team that is consistently on SportsCenter’s “Not Top 10.”

“We was losing and it was a tough situation,” Young said. “We kind of felt it in the air something was going to happen. To be here in the atmosphere of winning is a different feeling. I have to adjust fast. Washington wasn’t going to be in the playoffs. I had to cancel some plans going into the offseason.”

Yes, there will be a lot of adjustments to make, Nick.

Young struggled a bit in his first game with the Clips, but that was probably just jitters. He played 29 minutes in a win against the Detroit Pistons, shooting 1 for 6 from the field. But he was able to get to the line a good amount and shot 7 for 8 on free throws to finish with nine points.

Will Young be able to get things going and contribute to an already solid Clippers team? It will definitely be tough to struggle to fit in to that offense. So much attention is paid to Paul and Griffin that a talented shooting guard should do very well, especially since the Clippers really need a replacement for the injured Billups.

I think Young has a bright future in L.A. He is the type of guy who should be able to accept a new role on a very talented team. He is really coming into his prime and should be a valuable asset to a Clippers team looking to make some noise in the postseason.
