JaVale McGee gets his own reality show

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY SportsWhen JaVale McGee was on the Washington Wizards, he provided us with almost weekly entertainment in the form of some sort of outrageously awful play, a boneheaded decision or some off-the-court drama. When he joined the Denver Nuggets, he cleaned up his act a bit and proved that he could actually contribute to an NBA team.

He is more successful in Denver, but you can tell there is still something a bit off about him.

And what do we do with athletes that have a quirky side? That’s right, we give them their own reality show.

JaVale and his mom, former WNBA player Pamela McGee, will be featured on a new show on Oprah Winfrey’s network called “Millionaire Mama’s Boy.”

If I can find the OWN network, I may have to check this one out. Judging by the title, I’m guessing we will see a lot of conversations like this:

Pam: “JaVale, eat your peas or you can’t play against the Thunder tonight.”

JaVale: “MOOOOM, none of the other guys on the team have to eat their peas!”

Pam: “JaVale, you will eat your peas or I’ll tell Coach Karl to keep you on the bench all night!”

JaVale: “That’s stupid. I’m going to make a million dollars this week, I should get to eat what I want.”

Pam: “Well, when you start folding your own Captain America underwear, then you can eat what you want.”

Because that’s honestly how I picture JaVale and his mom acting together. The show will debut in the fall, so we have to wait a few months to get the inside look into what the Nuggets big man is like off the court.

Until then, let’s hope he provides us with more “unmanufactured” entertainment like this:
