Charles Barkley could use some golf lessons

When Charles Barkley was lacing up his sneakers in the NBA, there was no doubt he was one of the greatest to ever play the game. But when it comes to his golf game, well that’s a different story. Barkley teed off at the Tahoe for the American Century Championship where he showed the world how […]

Carmelo Anthony chooses money over wins. . . for now

LeBron James‘ decision about where to sign his contract for free agency was about making something right that was wrong. It was also about winning. He looked at the landscape of the Miami Heat and the health of Dwyane Wade and was not convinced he had a chance to win. Yes, winning in Cleveland was […]

Recapping Orlando Summer League with The Lottery Mafia

As Las Vegas Summer League begins to wrap up with its <ahem> playoffs, we will be bereft of basketball until late August when the FIBA World Cup begins in Spain.

A week ago, the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League wrapped up with the Sixers winning the <ahem> championship.

I was covering the event and still have a lot coming up from Summer League to share with you all. For now, I recapped what I saw from the 10 teams that came to Orlando with James Plowright and Nick Denning of The Lottery Mafia on the latest edition of their podcast:

RIP Brooklyn Knight

The Brooklyn Nets decided to put an end to their mascot, the Brooklyn Knight. The Brooklyn Knight was, how can I say this, a complete joke. It was a sad attempt by the franchise to capitalize on the wildly popular comic hero genre by creating a mascot complete with silver armor plating and a “B” […]

Experience helps Summer Leaguers grow

Making it to the “big show” of the NBA is nice. Everyone wants to stay there obviously. Life on the fringes does not make that task easy. Usually a young player just on the edge of falling into or out of the NBA has to prep up for a grueling tour through Summer League to […]

Phil Jackson says Melo will in New York for years to come, even though he’s been rumored to leave in free agency

Carmelo Anthony’s new portrait is ridiculously glorious

What do you get when you combine Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and a character out of “The Lord of the Rings”? This! I have no words but if you have to know what is going on here, take a look at this video. (h/t Bob’s Blitz)

NBA weighing putting Finals on TNT

“In a twist, the NBA may look to split up the NBA Finals between the two media companies, so that the championship round games would air on channels belonging to both, the people familiar with the matter said. That could take various forms: The networks could alternate Finals coverage each year, or carve up the Finals—played as the best-of-seven—in a given year.”

Sharon Terlep and Amol Sharma of The Wall Street Journal

The whole league is looking toward the end of the NBA’s TV contract with ESPN and Turner Sports and the potential financial windfall the league could make. Contracts are being signed with an eye toward the potential increase in the salary cap. And the NBA is salivating at it too.

There are already rumors the league is looking to split the NBA Finals or pit Turner’s apparent interest in getting at least part of the Finals from ABC/ESPN to increase the price during the exclusive negotiating window. Then there are FOX and NBC’s reported interest in getting national NBA broadcasts.

A lot of money is going to be made as the NBA is good business right now.

New Christmas Day uniforms feature secondary logo and FIRST NAMES!

The bulk of free agency appears to be nearing its completion and Summer League is beginning to wind down. The next major event on the NBA calendar is the release of the schedule followed by the FIBA World Cup (formerly the World Championship of Basketball). Little news and nuggets of information will begin trickling out […]

Drake blows in Lance Stephenson’s ear at ESPYs

Yep. After Lance Stephenson blew in LeBron James’ ear during the Eastern Conference Finals, it became an Internet sensation.

Something is a sensation, Drake has to get involved!

The ESPYs’ host is always one for jumping on the bandwagon and used his monologue to poke fun at the then-Pacers guard. Stephenson can blow his way all the way to the bank as he just signed a new four-year deal with the Hornets.

Or he could blow into Paul George’s ear too.

Video: Spurs’ Patty Mills and Aron Baynes decide to crash a live news report

How did this Australian Fox Sports reporter not recognize Spurs’ Patty Mills and Aron Baynes? Especially since Baynes was carrying the NBA trophy with him?

During a live shot for AFL coverage for Fox Sports, the two newly minted NBA champs decided to videobomb a live report! What happened next was awesome.

Not only did the reporter not recognize the duo, he shoved Mills away coming very close to his surgically repaired shoulder.

Check it out (h/t Project Spurs)
