As Las Vegas Summer League begins to wrap up with its <ahem> playoffs, we will be bereft of basketball until late August when the FIBA World Cup begins in Spain.
A week ago, the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League wrapped up with the Sixers winning the <ahem> championship.
I was covering the event and still have a lot coming up from Summer League to share with you all. For now, I recapped what I saw from the 10 teams that came to Orlando with James Plowright and Nick Denning of The Lottery Mafia on the latest edition of their podcast:

The Brooklyn Nets decided to put an end to their mascot, the Brooklyn Knight. The Brooklyn Knight was, how can I say this, a complete joke. It was a sad attempt by the franchise to capitalize on the wildly popular comic hero genre by creating a mascot complete with silver armor plating and a “B” […]

This is just awesome.
Marcin Gortat has been tearing up the NBA offseason. Whether it be him having a freaking tank at his basketball camp in his home country or this news update on his own contract with the Wizards.
Gortat hosted a Washington D.C. news show to give an update on his own contract situation with the Wiz (h/t PBT).

Making it to the “big show” of the NBA is nice. Everyone wants to stay there obviously. Life on the fringes does not make that task easy. Usually a young player just on the edge of falling into or out of the NBA has to prep up for a grueling tour through Summer League to […]

What do you get when you combine Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and a character out of “The Lord of the Rings”? This! I have no words but if you have to know what is going on here, take a look at this video. (h/t Bob’s Blitz)
“In a twist, the NBA may look to split up the NBA Finals between the two media companies, so that the championship round games would air on channels belonging to both, the people familiar with the matter said. That could take various forms: The networks could alternate Finals coverage each year, or carve up the Finals—played as the best-of-seven—in a given year.”

The whole league is looking toward the end of the NBA’s TV contract with ESPN and Turner Sports and the potential financial windfall the league could make. Contracts are being signed with an eye toward the potential increase in the salary cap. And the NBA is salivating at it too.
There are already rumors the league is looking to split the NBA Finals or pit Turner’s apparent interest in getting at least part of the Finals from ABC/ESPN to increase the price during the exclusive negotiating window. Then there are FOX and NBC’s reported interest in getting national NBA broadcasts.
A lot of money is going to be made as the NBA is good business right now.

The bulk of free agency appears to be nearing its completion and Summer League is beginning to wind down. The next major event on the NBA calendar is the release of the schedule followed by the FIBA World Cup (formerly the World Championship of Basketball). Little news and nuggets of information will begin trickling out […]

Yep. After Lance Stephenson blew in LeBron James’ ear during the Eastern Conference Finals, it became an Internet sensation.
Something is a sensation, Drake has to get involved!
The ESPYs’ host is always one for jumping on the bandwagon and used his monologue to poke fun at the then-Pacers guard. Stephenson can blow his way all the way to the bank as he just signed a new four-year deal with the Hornets.
Or he could blow into Paul George’s ear too.

How did this Australian Fox Sports reporter not recognize Spurs’ Patty Mills and Aron Baynes? Especially since Baynes was carrying the NBA trophy with him?
During a live shot for AFL coverage for Fox Sports, the two newly minted NBA champs decided to videobomb a live report! What happened next was awesome.
Not only did the reporter not recognize the duo, he shoved Mills away coming very close to his surgically repaired shoulder.
Check it out (h/t Project Spurs)
“Win projection, neutral schedule (2014′s strength of schedule):
43.2 (44.9)
Offensive efficiency:
-0.4 (-0.4)
Defensive efficiency:
-1.2 (-1.9)
Miami drops nearly ten wins from the season before thanks to an imploding offense. They actually improve on defense due to switching LeBron with Luol Deng (LeBron’s defensive marks were mediocre last season) and (most likely given the reports) losing Ray Allen. LeBron’s a one-man offense, capable of carrying an average offense into elite territory.
However, there’s an issue here. Players do not have concrete values. They’re dependent on roles and how they’re used. With LeBron gone, the offensive burden shifts to the other players, Bosh and Wade in particular. Some critics have stated those two stars were hindered by LeBron’s presence and ball dominance. It’s their time to prove this theory.”

It has been a really good year for fictitional Clevelander Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother.
The series may have ended in May, but our favorite semi-eccentric New York architect met the love of his life (no, it is NOT Robin) at his good friends’ wedding back in May starting off a wonderful romance that will last [SPOILER REDACTED].
Mosby was never afraid to share his feelings on LeBron James and his departure from Cleveland. The show even mocked The Decision in a major way among its many LeBron-related Cleveland jokes.
Of course, James is back now. So how would Ted Mosby react?
Meeting the love of your life and getting your favorite hero back in your home city? Pretty darn good year Ted Evelyn Mosby.
“Honestly, I was offended by the whole process. They publicly said that they were going out looking for a third star when I thought they had one right in front of them. I guess that’s just how they viewed me as a player. I don’t think I’ve scratched the surface of where I can be as a player and I think I’m ready for that role.
You can’t knock them for always trying to get better. [Houston general manager] Daryl Morey is very aggressive, is a genius, a great GM and I have nothing but respect for those guys. And they are looking to make their team better. That’s what they were doing. I just thought I could be that guy that could do that.”

The NBA’s moratorium officially lifted at midnight as the league announced the salary cap for the 2014-15 season increased by 7.5 percent to an all-time high of $63.065 million. The increase in the salary cap is a signal of the good business in the NBA right now. According to Larry Coon, the salary cap is […]

Cavs fans really need to be tuning in to all of Andrew Wiggins Vegas Summer League games because he is putting on a show.
Wiggins is displaying insane amounts of athleticism, quickness and ability to get to the rim and send it home.
Case in point, Andrew’s recent Summer League game versus the Sixers.
Check out Wiggins’ eye-popping spin move and 2-handed dunk. Brace yourself Cavs fans, you got one really nice rookie on hand. Unless of course Cleveland decides to trade him for Kevin Love.
