LeBron James scores 25 in first quarter in Heat win

For 12 minutes, LeBron James was on Wilt Chamberlain’s incredible pace. He obviously did not keep it up or else the Internet would probably be shut down.

What James did do is score 25 of his 43 points in the first quarter, making 10 of his 11 shots and five of his six 3-poitners. The Heat needed every single one of those points to beat the Kyrie Irving-less Cavaliers 100-96 at Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday night.

Mark Cuban: Tanking not effective

There is concern in NBA circles about the possibility and reality of tanking. That is, teams somewhat purposefully trying to lose to get better draft positioning. Especially when you take a look at this year’s Draft with all the potential stars that appear to be available. Mark Cuban has become a de facto spokesman for […]

Carmelo Anthony willing to change for Phil Jackson

“The big picture, absolutely, for the big picture this is definitely more attractive.

“I’m willing to do whatever. As long as it’s gonna put me in a situation to win, I’m willing to do whatever. I’m not sold or stuck on my play. What I’ve been able to do these past 10-11 years has gotten me to where I am right now.

“If Phil wants to come in and change that this late in my career, if it’s going to help me out to win a championship, I’m with it.”

Cavs unveil the future of pregame intros

If you are trying to sell your fans on the latest and greatest in entertainment — mostly because your team is pretty awful — then the Cleveland Cavaliers really upped the ante. The Cavaliers turned their floor into a giant projector for Zydrunas Ilgauskas' big night last weekend. And… wow. This technology has sort of […]

Cavs fearing the worst with Kyrie Irving

In the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Clippers, the worst happened to the Cavaliers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L116O7v6izM Kyrie Irving left the game in the second quarter with a biceps injury as the Clippers were well on their way to a win (the Cavaliers made a second-half comeback, but could not maintain the close deficit at […]

Steve Nash done this year, not for his career

The same week that the Lakers announced Kobe Bryant would be out for the rest of the season,  they also announced Steve Nash would not be returning this season. Nash’s two years in Los Angeles have been marked by various injuries, many you would expect for a 40-year-old point guard playing in the NBA. It […]

Life when Rajon Rondo returns

The story for the Celtics this season has been clear — the long wait for Rajon Rondo’s return. It finally happened on January 17 as Rondo made his debut this season after tearing his ACL last year (and pretty much trying to play through it). Rondo is the kind of talent that sets himself apart […]

Joe Borgia talks about unusual foul-out play

Back in February, an unusual play happened. Robert Sacre fouled out of a game between the Lakers and the Cavaliers. That was not the unusual part. The unusual part was the Lakers had no one else available to play. Injuries had racked the roster. An injured Steve Nash was on the active roster but not […]

Blazers season crashing down long before Aldridge

Portland's season was quickly going off the rails long before LaMarcus Aldridge came crashing on the floor in the second half. Aldridge made the basket but fell hard on his lower back, an injury that will keep him out at least the next two games and maybe longer. {youtube}94DznluOcO8{/youtube} The game was almost out of […]

Kobe Bryant done for the season

The Lakers announced Wednesday that Kobe Bryant will miss the remainder of the season as he recovers from a knee injury sustained in December. Bryant, recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered late last season, suffered a left tibial plataeau fracture in mid-December. Bryant had hoped to return at some point this season. But as […]

NBA still fighting ugly stereotypes

The NBA may never separate itself from its racial identity. The league has no pads or helmets to hide behind. A large majority of the league's players are black. That is an inescapable fact. It should not matter. It does not matter. Except when someone — particularly someone with some measure of political power — […]

‘Bad Boys’ getting 30 for 30 documentary

The ‘Bad Boys’ era Pistons will be in the next batch of ESPN 30 for 30 Documentaries. Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated reports the documentary will air April 17 and feature interviews with more than 40 players, coaches and personalities associated with the iconic two-time champions that defined the late 1980s and early 1990s-era of […]

Pacers seeking offseason advice

The Pacers always seem to be looking to improve. Clearly they are not satisfied with just being title contenders or just being the best team in the East. And clearly, Indiana recognizes that this is a young group and the window (appears) wide open to compete for championships. Indiana's young players want to keep that […]

Knicks flirting with Phil Jackson

The Knicks are always looking to grab headlines and the latest rumors certainly do that. With the team seemingly falling into the abyss and the upcoming free agency for Carmelo Anthony, some big names might be the only thing to salvage anything from this season and save the next few with Anthony. Frank Isola of […]
